Breakthrough Cambridge Core Science Initiative
Inspire a Scientist in 2012!
Last year at about this time, a couple of BTC 9th graders suggested that we help future students by offering a summer physics course. We responded, “Sure!” The course was such a success that we decided to make it permanent and to restructure biology and chemistry for 7th and 8th graders accordingly. We would love your help now so that we can roll out our new science sequence in 2012.
I never thought that I was science person and 8th grade physics was very challenging. But last summer, I learned physics by seeing and doing it, like when we pushed each other on rolling chairs to feel how mass affects acceleration. Breakthrough is giving me the courage to enroll in the physics honors option this year. And I wonder, what is a so-called science person anyway? Our country is struggling to turn the tide in science education, especially for our low income youth who rarely enter opportunity-filled science careers.
